Cerebral palsy and lifelong injuries sustained during birth

With access to medical care today, many think giving birth is easy and painless. Many mothers know that this is not the case. The reality is that giving birth is a serious situation and requires the utmost in medical care and expertise. Not all births go according to plan. This can lead to birth injuries for the baby that can affect the rest of their life.

One of the possible injuries that can be sustained is called cerebral palsy. Cerebral palsy is a lifelong condition sustained at birth that affects the part of the brain that controls movement. Sometimes the condition can also negatively affect intellect or development. Around 1 in 300 children are affected by the birth injury cerebral palsy.

Some of these children sustained these injuries and were diagnosed with this condition due to an incorrect medical decision. This type of decision can warrant a medical malpractice suit. This is determined by the details of the birth, medical professionals and medical history of the mother just to name a few. Children diagnosed with cerebral palsy may not be diagnosed until they are a little older so it is important for parents to investigate the birth facts and situations carefully.

While diagnosis of cerebral palsy can be a devastating blow, consider your options. It is true that the child diagnosed with cerebral palsy will likely need medical care and attention that he wouldn't otherwise. This does come at a price. The price is the cost of medical care and a change in quality of life.
