Taxi drivers and workplace accidents

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, job growth for taxi drivers is expected to increase over the next several years at a quicker rate than most professions. Furthermore, with the increasing prevalence of vehicles for hire, even more people will find work in this field. In San Bernardino, and the entire state of California, people who work in this industry also face a number of serious risks at work. Sadly, workplace accidents involving taxi drivers may claim lives and lead to debilitating injuries.

When a taxi driver gets behind the wheel, they face a plethora of dangers. Even though a taxi driver may operate their vehicle responsibly and obey all traffic laws, they may suffer a permanent injury or lose their life due to the negligence of another person. For example, they could suffer an injury after being struck by a drunk driver or colliding with another vehicle due to poor road conditions. These crashes often lead to a multitude of challenges, such as emotional pain throughout the family and burdensome medical costs.

In addition to motor vehicle accidents, taxi drivers face other job-related threats that carry severe repercussions. In fact, people who work in this profession face an on-the-job murder risk that is more than 20 times greater than other fields, according to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration. Taxi drivers also run the risk of assault and robbery while working, especially for those who drive in dangerous neighborhoods during nighttime hours. In some cases, taxi drivers who are injured on the job can hold their employers accountable for violations.
