What are the most common causes of traumatic brain injuries?

Each day, people suffer brain injuries that interrupt their life and may affect them for years to come. In San Bernardino, California, and all over the U.S., people who suffer a traumatic brain injury may face many problems, from amnesia and brain damage to needing long-term care and having difficulty paying for medical expenses. Because of the serious nature of head trauma, it is important for everyone to understand some of the most common causes of traumatic brain injuries and do everything they can to prevent an injury from taking place.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, traumatic brain injuries have numerous causes. Some of the most common are falls, accidental blunt trauma, motor vehicle accidents and assault. Between 2006 and 2010, the CDC reports that falls were most common cause of traumatic brain injuries, making up 40 percent of all TBIs that resulted in emergency treatment, hospitalization or death in the U.S. Over the same period of time, assault was the contributing factor in roughly 10 percent of all traumatic brain injuries.

If you have suffered a brain injury, it is crucial to address the incident and your injury appropriately. If your injury was the result of someone's reckless behavior or negligence, you may want to look into holding them accountable by taking legal action. Also, you should keep in mind that the full extent of an injury may not be known right away and challenges may arise years later.
