Recognizing the symptoms of a TBI

Whether a construction worker is struck in the head by falling debris, a child is injured on the playground or a motorist hits their head during a collision, there are many ways that people suffer brain injuries. In San Bernardino, these injuries can cause a smorgasbord of hardships for California families and it is crucial for people to recognize the symptoms of a traumatic brain injury. Unfortunately, people do not always realize they suffered a traumatic brain injury until years later.

According to the U.S. National Library of Medicine, TBI symptoms may not become evident until weeks after the injury occurred. Some signs to look out for include feeling dizzy or nauseous, pain in the neck, headaches and feeling tired. For those who have suffered a more serious brain injury, symptoms may include convulsions, pupil dilation, vomiting, persistent headaches and feeling weak in the legs.

The U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs lists additional symptoms that people who think they may have suffered a TBI should watch out for. Symptoms, which may last for months after the injury, include being sensitive to light, sleep problems, making poor decisions and emotional issues such as anger or depression.

For those who believe their brain was injured, identifying a TBI is vital for numerous reasons. For starters, they may want to receive treatment for the injury to improve their quality of life. Additionally, if someone's negligence caused the TBI, it is important for victims to identify their injury and hold accountable those who are responsible.
