Are scaffolding accidents a major problem?

On this blog, we have gone over a number of topics related to workplace accidents. However, it is important to review some of the specific risks that you may face, given your line of work. For example, if are employed in the construction industry and you work on scaffolding, you should try to find ways to reduce the chances of something going wrong. Unfortunately, many of these accidents occur, and they sometimes prove fatal.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration states that more than 60 construction workers pass away each year, according to data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. While the loss of life is a major concern, far more workers sustain injuries in these accidents. In fact, statistics from past years show that 4,500 injuries occur on an annual basis. Moreover, it is estimated that 65 percent of construction workers (more than 2 million people) are required to use scaffolding as part of their job responsibilities.

Unfortunately, these accidents will keep happening, regardless of the level of caution that is taken. If you sustain an injury because you are involved in a scaffolding collapse, or if you are hurt while working in any other way, you need to develop a clear understanding of any options you have. Depending on the details of what took place, workers’ compensation may be able to help you regain some sense of normalcy. Moreover, workers’ comp could assist with your medical costs and some of the other financial difficulties you have encountered after being hurt at work.
