Man defrauds California businesses of workers comp premiums

No one wants to be injured on the job. However, when workplace accidents occur, employees count on employers to handle certain needs and expenses. In turn, employers usually count on their worker's compensation insurance policy to cover those expenses. For some California businesses, that line of trust was broken by an insurance agent who was defrauding clients.

Letter urges California board to join malpractice investigation

Medical negligence or mistakes can lead to serious consequences for patients, including death. When family members deal with the treatment of a loved one that borders on medical malpractice, it can be difficult to get honest answers from hospitals. In a recent California case, a consumer group is alleging a possible cover up and asking authorities to get involved.

Study reveals human error responsible in type of birth injury

California residents may be interested to know about a forthcoming study which reveals alarming data. According to an obstetrics journal, human error is most often responsible in a certain type of birth injury. Birth asphyxia, which occurs when the baby's brain does not get enough oxygen during the birth process (either before, during or after), which may result in cell damage and permanent injury to organs. Babies with mild or moderate asphyxia may be able to recover fully, but damage to the brain, lungs, heart and other organs can have lifelong consequences. Additionally, cerebral palsy and developmental disabilities may occur in severe, but survivable, cases.

Family files new wrongful death suit

The family of Michael Jackson is seeking another wrongful death suit. Jackson died in 2009 at age 50, and the cause was found to be an overdose of a drug given to him by his physician. The doctor, Conrad Murray, was convicted of manslaughter charges in 2011, but the family has been seeking a wrongful death suit related to the concert promoter, AEG.
